Dive weights offset the natural buoyancy of your body and exposure suit so you can descend and hold a steady depth. Most divers carry their weight on a belt, in pockets on a weight-integrated BCD or a mix of both.

Correct weighting makes a big difference in air consumption and comfort, so it's worth doing a buoyancy check at the surface whenever you change wetsuits or tanks.
