The SSI Classified Dive Buddy Course is designed for divers who want to expand their skills and make scuba diving accessible to everyone. As a Classified Dive Buddy, you’ll learn how to safely support and assist divers with limited mobility, sensory challenges, or other disabilities. This program emphasizes teamwork, communication, and adaptive techniques so every diver can experience the underwater world with confidence.
Through a combination of classroom learning, pool practice, and open water training, you’ll develop the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to be a reliable dive buddy. By completing this course, you’ll play an essential role in making diving more inclusive, while also becoming a more capable and adaptable diver yourself.
What You’ll Learn

- Safe and effective buddy procedures for divers with disabilities

Course Prerequisites
- Minimum Age: 18 years
- Certification: Must be a certified Open Water Diver (or equivalent)
- Safety Training: Diver Stress/Rescue Certified
- Recommended: Current First Aid, CPR, and Oxygen Provider certifications
